Etisalat Embarrased by Half of a Yellow Sun controversies


Etisalat Nigeria, the key sponsor of Half of a Yellow Sun screening is embarrassed by controversies that has been surfacing since the film came to Nigeria.Besides reviews that the film is way below expectation,there has been talks that the work could contribute to ethnic tension in the country. A source told us on Tuesday that some people in Etisalat including the chairman, Mr. Hakeem Belo-Osagie are not happy with development so far.
A business reporter with a national daily told gistmaster.com that it is quite embarrasing to Etisalat.”Does it mean they didnt do their home work well before signing the sponsorship deal?” He asked rhetorically. Ms. Genevieve Nnaji, nollywood icon and brand ambassador for Etisalat and she featured in just one scene.
Half of a Yellow Sun film is an adaptation of the book written by Nigerian born author,Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.It featured OC Ukeje,Chiwetel Ejiofor of 12 years a slave,Onyeka Nwenu and others.The movie reportedly cost $10 million.
Inside sources told gistmaster.com over the weekend that the presidency stopped the film from screening.The censors board already gave its go ahead.There was no way that they would gone to the cinema without an approval but when some people saw the content in the presidency, they called the Nigeria censors board to order.
