The Olabisi Onabanjo University
sacked 962 staff in 2009.
Professor
Saburi Adesanya, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State,
said on Thursday that the institution would recall 120 lecturers retrenched in
2009.
The institution had in 2009 retrenched 962 teaching and non
teaching staff.
The Vice Chancellor said this in Ago-Iwoye at a news conference
to mark the beginning of the 22nd convocation ceremony of the university.
Mr. Adesanya said the process of recalling some of the lecturers
became imperative due to the shortage of academic staff at the institution.
He said that new lecturers would also be employed to address the
problem of under staffing.
“Sometime ago, we had a bad experience when some of our staff
were retrenched. But what we are doing now is to recall those that can be
recalled and employ more hands to fit into our system.
“That means that those who will be employed have to be trained
to get teaching experience. On the other hand, we are going to recall 120
lecturers from those retrenched. We pray they will all come back,” he said.
The university boss said the
lecturers would be recalled before September, when theNational Universities Commission would be visiting the institution for
accreditation.

Mr. Adesanya, who said the convocation would take place on April
5 and 6, added that the university offered admission to more than 6,000
students during the 2012\2013 academic session.
